The Cure4CF
Foundation would like to thank the Land Services Group, which held a 'casual
day' in the office to raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis research. The Land
Services Group is a South Australian government agency that provides
information and advice on the administration of land in the state. The team
managed to raise $115.90 towards our goal of finding a cure for Cystic
Fibrosis. Cystic Fibrosis is the most common, genetically
acquired, chronic illness affecting young Australians. Those with Cystic Fibrosis
have a significantly decreased life expectancy - which is why finding a cure is
so important.
The pathway to this brighter future may be right here
in Adelaide. The Adelaide
CF Gene Therapy Group has already had some success in treating the airways of
CF affected mice with the correcting CF gene (called CFTR). The aim is now is
to confirm and extend the beneficial effects of this CFTR gene transfer through
further research. Success will put our research team in a much stronger
position to conduct clinical trials on patients, currently estimated to be five to 10
years away. However, greater resources for
research could reduce this ‘pre-clinical’ phase considerably.
Like the Land Services Group, your fundraising efforts
could make a huge difference to the lives of those living with CF. Please help us reach our goal of
$350,000 for 2013 to increase the research capacity of our Adelaide team and to
help find the cure for Cystic Fibrosis sooner. If you would like to organise a
fundraiser at your workplace, school or in your community or make a
tax-deductible donation to the Cure4CF foundation please contact info@cure4cf.org or call us on 1300 480 131.
