The Allan Scott CF Research Laboratory and the Women's and Children's Hospital Foundation Breathing Space were opened by the Honourable Tanya Plibersek, Federal Minister for Health together with the Honourable John Hill, South Australian Minister for Health and Ageing. David Coluccio and Greg Oke, current Board Directors of the Cure4CF Foundation, were present at the opening, along with special guests Ray Scott and Zena Winser from the Scott Group of Companies and Nigel Smart of Variety - the Children's Charity.
The new facility includes a respiratory assessment service for lung illnesses and a gene therapy laboratory to research a cure for cystic fibrosis. A key component is the pulmonary function laboratory which features negative pressure rooms enabling clinicians to provide the gold standard in CF spirometry testing,
The Foundation would like to acknowledge the incredibly generous support of the Scott Group of Companies, whose donation of $500,000 was instrumental in the development of the laboratory. We would also like to thank Variety - the Children's Charity for their significant contribution, and all of the supporters and donors who have helped to make the Allan Scott CF Research Laboratory a reality. It is a great step forward as we work towards finding a cure for Cystic Fibrosis Airway Disease.
